MEXICAN NATIONAL SENTENCED TO 24 MONTHS
IN FEDERAL PRISON FOR ILLEGAL REENTRY

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A Mexican national previously deported after having been convicted of various felonies, including crimes of violence, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Providence on Thursday to 24 months in federal prison for illegal reentry into the United States, it was announced by United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha.

David Eduardo Arteaga-Valle, 32, of Woonsocket, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi. Arteaga-Valle pleaded guilty in January 2011.

            According to court documents and information presented to the court, Arteaga-Valle illegally entered the country in 1986, and was convicted on various felony charges in January 1998, including a home invasion and the robbery of two women at gunpoint. He was deported to Mexico in August 2001.

Arteaga-Valle was arrested in Rhode Island in August 2010 on a domestic violence complaint. An immigration detainer was placed on him in September 2010 while he was at the ACI.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Zechariah Chafee.

The matter was investigated by agents from the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – Homeland Security Investigations.

            Following his imprisonment, Arteaga-Valle will be turned over to ICE for deportation proceedings.
