PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Anthony Reid, 25, of Providence, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Providence today to 46 months in federal prison, having pled guilty in January to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Chief U.S. District Court Judge Mary M. Lisi also sentenced Reid to serve three years of supervised release upon completion of his federal prison sentence.

Reid’s sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Peter F. Neronha and Providence Police Chief Colonel Hugh T. Clements, Jr.

According to court documents and information presented to the court, on February 18, 2011, Providence Police executed a court authorized search warrant at Reid’s residence where they discovered and seized a loaded Hi-Point 9mm firearm and a small amount of marijuana. Reid was arrested and ordered detained.

On October 13, 2011, Reid, who was previously convicted in state court of a crime punishable by more than one year imprisonment, pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, as charged in a federal grand jury indictment returned on June 8, 2011.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Ly T. Chin, Richard W. Rose and John P. McAdams.

The matter was investigated by Providence Police with the assistance of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
