Former Senior RI State Prosecutor Sworn In as federal Prosecutor
Veteran prosecutor assigned to team of prosecutors and federal and state law enforcement agents focused on investigating and prosecuting firearm, drug, and organized crime cases
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Paul F. Daly, Jr., 49, a former top criminal Rhode Island state prosecutor for twenty-two years, was formally sworn in today as an Assistant United States Attorney by U.S. District Court Chief Judge Mary M. Lisi. Several dozen of Daly’s family members, present and former colleagues, members of law enforcement and friends were present in the U.S. District Court when Chief Judge Lisi administered the oath.
Paul Daly, Jr. was appointed to the position of Assistant U.S. Attorney in February by United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha. He joined the United States Attorney’s Office on March 13, 2012.
A former Criminal Division Chief; Chief of the Narcotics and Organized Crime Unit; and Senior Trial Counsel, coordinating and overseeing the investigation and prosecution of high profile felony cases with the Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, Daly has been assigned by U.S. Attorney Neronha to a team of federal prosecutors who are primarily focused on prosecuting organized crime, drug and firearm cases.
United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha welcomed Daly, commenting, “Paul is a tremendous addition who brings with him a wealth of experience, sound judgment and tremendous trial ability. I am extremely pleased to welcome someone to our staff of fine attorneys who is so well-respected by the judiciary, fellow prosecutors, law enforcement and the defense bar alike.
In addition to prosecuting nearly every kind of criminal matter as a state prosecutor, Daly also held numerous supervisory positions, including supervising approximately 150 criminal division personnel; he served as a liaison to state and municipal police departments; and engaged in training of state and local law enforcement regarding criminal law and procedure. He has also served as an instructor of law at the Rhode Island Municipal Police Academy.
Paul Daly is a graduate of Boston College where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science in 1985 and his Juris Doctor in 1988.
