Nationally Recognized Federal Prosecutor Joins U.S. Attorney's Office in Rhode Island
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha today announced the appointment of Randy Katz, 37, to the position of Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Rhode Island. Katz, a native of Boston, previously served as an Assistant U. S. Attorney in the Economic Crimes Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Miami, Florida, for more than seven years where he prosecuted significant bank fraud, securities fraud, health care fraud and mortgage fraud cases.
In 2008, Assistant U. S. Attorney Katz was awarded the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Service, one of the highest honors in the Department of Justice, for his work on one of the largest health care fraud prosecutions in the State of Florida. In 2009, he was recognized by the Federal Bar Association as a Younger Federal Lawyer of the Year. In 2010, Mr. Katz received the Timothy Evans Memorial Award for Outstanding Performance as an Assistant United States Attorney, given to the top federal prosecutor in the Southern District of Florida. In addition, Mr. Katz recently received the FBI Director’s Award in 2011 for his work on a significant mortgage fraud prosecution.

Randy Katz is a graduate of Duke Law School where he earned his law degree, with high honors, in 2001 and was on the Editorial Board of the Duke Law Journal. He also graduated in 1998 from the University of Maryland, with high honors, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Government and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science.
Prior to his service as a federal prosecutor, Katz was a litigation associate at a private law firm in Boston. Katz also served as a law clerk at the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
