Alleged Gang Member arrested on Firearms Charge

PROVIDENCE, R.I. –  Nimara S. Seng, 21, of Providence, RI, was arrested earlier today and ordered detained following his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Providence, R.I., on a firearms charge.

The arrest was announced by United States Attorney Peter F. Neronha; Guy N. Thomas, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; and Providence Public Safety Commissioner Steven M. Pare.

Seng was charged with possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence.  The Affidavit in support of the Criminal Complaint filed with the Court today alleges that agents seized a loaded 9mm. handgun from Seng’s residence.  In a post-arrest statement, Seng allegedly admitted to being a member of the Providence Street Boys, a Providence street gang.

A criminal complaint is merely an allegation and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Milind M. Shah.

The case was investigated by the ATF with assistance from the Providence Police Department, the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal's Office, and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
