
Alabama Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Birmingham, Alabama, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on December 20, 2010, by US District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Anthony L. Thomas, age 46, was sentenced to five years of probation, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $25,696.14. Thomas was indicted for failing to pay over $25,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on March 3, 2010. At the time of indictment, Anthony L. Thomas had not made a child support payment since August 2008, and the total arrearage amount was $25,696.14. He pled guilty to the charge on December 20, 2010. This case was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case. # # #
