U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Lower Brule woman charged with Possession of a Controlled Firearm was sentenced on March 1, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Lauren LaRoche, age 22, was sentenced to 18 months in custody and two years of supervised release.

LaRoche was indicted for Possession of a Controlled Firearm by a federal grand jury in October 2010. The charge stems from an incident whereby LaRoche possessed a firearm while making threats against a Lower Brule man in March 2010. LaRoche pled guilty to the indictment in December 2010.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Lower Brule Agency and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman prosecuted the case.

LaRoche was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
