Eagle Butte Man Sentenced for Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte, South Dakota, man charged with Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury was sentenced on April 4, 2011, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Tanner Cyril Garreau, a/k/a Tanner Cyril Garreaux, age 20, was sentenced to 30 months of custody, three years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Garreau was indicted for Assault with Intent to Commit Murder, Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, and Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury by a federal grand jury on September 14, 2010. The charge relates to Garreau assaulting another male on March 5, 2010, in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, in that Garreau stabbed the victim several times. Said assault resulted in serious bodily injury to the victim. He pled guilty to the charge of Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury on December 6, 2010.

This case was investigated by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. Assistant United States Attorney Meghan N. Dilges prosecuted the case.

Garreau was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
