United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Dupree woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Attempted Acquisition of a Controlled Substance by Misrepresentation, Fraud, Forgery, Deception, and Subterfuge.

Carlynn J. Clown, age 28, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 8, 2011, on the above charge. She appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 26, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is four years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; one year of supervised release; and a $100 Special Assessment. Restitution may also be ordered. The charge is merely an accusation, and Clown is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller is prosecuting the case. Clown was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
