
Dupree Man Indicted for Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Dupree man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assaulting a Federal Officer. Maka Akan Inaji Frazier, a/k/a Najin Frazier, age 18, was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 7, 2011, for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon and Assaulting, Resisting and Impeding a Federal Officer. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on June 16, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both; three years of supervised release; and a $100 Special Assessment. Restitution may also be ordered. The charges are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Division. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Frazier was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set. |
