Ft. Thompson Man Arraigned on Sexual Abuse Charge

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Ft. Thompson man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Sexual Abuse.

Craig W. Kirkie, age 46, was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2011. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on August 31, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years' imprisonment. The charge stems from an incident in Ft. Thompson in November of 2005. The charge is merely an accusation, and Kirkie is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by Bureau of Indian Affairs, Crow Creek Agency. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case. Kirkie was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
