US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Troutman, North Carolina, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on November 21, 2011, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Robert E. Piorkowski, age 43, was sentenced to five years of probation, a special assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $21,617.95.
Piorkowski was indicted for failing to pay over $10,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on February 8, 2011. The Defendant was ordered by the Third Judicial Circuit, Codington County, South Dakota, to pay past due support for his minor child, which obligation remained unpaid for a period longer than two years. At the time of indictment, the total arrearage amount was over $10,000.00. He pleaded guilty to the charge on November 21, 2011.
This case was investigated by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorneys Thomas J. Wright and Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.
