Bullhead Man Sentenced for Altercation in April 2010

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Bullhead man charged with two counts of Assault by Striking, Beating and Wounding was sentenced on December 5, 2011, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Brandon Bagola, age 23, was sentenced to 11 months in custody and a $20 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Bagola was indicted for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, Assault Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury, and Aiding and Abetting those assaults by a federal grand jury on January 11, 2011. The conviction resulted from an incident that occurred on April 24, 2010, at Bullhead between the Little Eagle family and their supporters and the White Eagle family and their supporters. During the fight, Brandon Bagola and others unlawfully assaulted Joey White Eagle and Ansel White Eagle, Sr. by striking, beating and wounding them. On July 11, 2011, Bagola pled guilty to a Superseding Information.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Standing Rock Agency. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson prosecuted the case.

Bagola was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
