LaPlant Man Sentenced for Threatening Tiospaye School Principal

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a LaPlant man charged with Threatening a Federal Employee was sentenced on December 8, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Kendall Charger, age 38, was sentenced to 2 years of federal probation and a $25 special assessment.

Charger was indicted in June 2008 for Making a Threatening Communication by Telephone. The charge arose out of an incident in which Kendall Charger left a threatening message on the answering machine at Bureau of Indian Affairs Tiospaye Topa School in LaPlant for the school’s assistant principal. Charger claimed in the threatening telephone call that he left a pipe bomb under the assistant principal’s car. In October 2011 Charger pled guilty to a Superseding Information charging him with Intimidating and Threatening a Federal Employee.

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Mikal Hanson.
