United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mission, South Dakota, man charged with Third Degree Burglary and Aiding and Abetting was sentenced on December 13, 2011, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Skye Lee Valdez, age 21, was sentenced to 5 months in custody, 2 years of supervised release, $2,797.74 in restitution, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.
Valdez was indicted by a federal grand jury on August 22, 2011, and pled guilty to the charge on September 20, 2011.
On May 30, 2011, Valdez aided and abetted the burglary of a Subway restaurant by responding to communications from his co-defendant and going to the Subway restaurant and helping carry property away. Valdez and his co-defendant were involved in taking drinks, food, chips, and U.S. currency or coins from the Subway restaurant.
This case was investigated by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher prosecuted the case.
Valdez was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal.
