Box Elder Man Guilty of Distributing Morphine

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Shane Dixon, age 27, of Box Elder, appeared before US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on January 24, 2011, and pled guilty to Count I of an Indictment that charged him with Distribution of a Controlled Substance. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years imprisonment and/or a $2,000,000 fine.
In June, 2010, near Ellsworth, Dixon knowingly distributed morphine. The investigation was conducted by the Ellsworth Air Force Base Office of Special Investigations and the Unified Narcotics Enforcement Team. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Mark A. Vargo.
A presentence investigation was ordered and a sentencing date was set for April 15, 2011. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
