Lead Woman Indicted for Obtaining Oxycodone

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Lead woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for fraudulently obtaining Oxycodone from the Ft. Meade VA.

Sherry Goldsmith, age 44, was indicted by a federal grand jury on March 16, 2010, for Obtaining Controlled Substance by Fraud and Attempting to Obtain Controlled Substance by Fraud. She appeared before US Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on February 10, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction of each count is 4 years of imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. The charges are merely accusations, and Goldsmith is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Ft. Meade VA. Assistant US Attorney Mark A. Vargo is prosecuting the case. Goldsmith was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
