Box Elder Man Sentenced to Probation for Tampering with Evidence

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man charged with Tampering with Evidence was sentenced on March 13, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Justin Honea, age 20, of Box Elder, was sentenced to a term of probation.

Honea was originally indicted for Sexual Abuse of a Minor and Tampering with Evidence by a federal grand jury on May 18, 2010. Honea had sexual relations with an underage female at the Ellsworth Air Force Base and retrieved the condom he had used earlier in the course of engaging in sexual intercourse with the young girl. Honea then destroyed the condom by discarding it in a place where investigators were unable to locate it. By destroying the evidence, Honea made it unavailable for use in an official proceeding, namely, a federal investigation of the crime of Sexual Abuse of a Minor. Honea pled guilty on November 31, 2010, to the charge of Tampering with Evidence.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Gregg S. Peterman prosecuted the case.

Honea was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
