Manderson Man Pleads to Stabbing

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Hermis Earl Janis, Jr., a/k/a Hermis Earl Tall, Jr., age 29, of Manderson, appeared before Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier on March 18, 2011, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with Assault With a Dangerous Weapon. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
In April 2009 at Manderson, Janis stabbed another person in the head several times. The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Carolyn G. Olson.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for June 3, 2011. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the US Marshal pending sentencing. |
