Colorado Man Pleads Guilty to Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Michael J. Bond, age 31, of Pueblo, Colorado, appeared before US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on April 8, 2011, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support. The maximum penalty upon conviction is two years of imprisonment, one year of supervised release, and child support restitution amount owing at the time of sentencing.

Bond was ordered by the Juvenile Court, Denver County, Colorado, to pay $226 per month for his minor child, commencing August 1, 2001. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since December 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $22,265.63. The investigation was conducted by the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. The case was prosecuted by Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright and Carolyn G. Olson.

A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 11, 2011. The defendant was released on bond pending sentencing.
