Tennessee Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Bon Aqua, Tennessee, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on April 11, 2011, by US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Larry M. Hopkins, age 61, was sentenced to three months of supervised release, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $68,987.

Hopkins was indicted for failing to pay over $65,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on December 1, 2009. He was ordered by the Superior Court of the State of Washington, County of Pend Oreille, to pay $367 per month for his minor child, commencing May 1, 1995. At the time of indictment, Larry M. Hopkins had not made any payments toward his child support arrearages, and the total arrearage amount was $64,225.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorneys Thomas J. Wright and Carolyn G. Olson prosecuted the case.
