US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Tulsa, Oklahoma, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on April 21, 2011, by US Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy. Charles A. Strong, age 37, was sentenced to 36 months of probation, a $10 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $8,536.00.
Strong was indicted for failing to pay over $17,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on October 6, 2009. Strong was ordered by the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court, Pennington County, South Dakota, to pay $371.00 per month for his minor children, commencing June 1, 2003. Said support was later amended to $231.02 per month commencing on April 1, 2005. At the time of indictment, Strong had made a child support payment in June of 2009, but prior to that date, he had not made a payment since June of 2007, and the total arrearage amount was $17,442,20. He pled guilty to the charge on February 2, 2011.
This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorneys Thomas J. Wright and Robert A. Mandel prosecuted the case.
