Hawaii Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Kaunakakai, Hawaii, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on May 27, 2011, by US District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Gabriel Kelekolio, Jr., age 28, was sentenced to a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund and child support restitution in the amount of $25,650.

He was indicted for failing to pay over $18,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on October 6, 2009. Kelekolio was ordered by the Seventh Judicial Circuit Court, Fall River County, to pay $609 per month for his minor children, commencing May 1, 2007. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since the order and judgment was entered. The total arrearage amount was $18,270. He pled guilty to the charge on May 27, 2011.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General.
