Nisland Man Acquitted of Firearm Charges

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Mark Martin, age 53, of Nisland, SD, was found not guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and being an unlawful user of a controlled substance in possession of a firearm after a three-day jury trial in United States District Court in Rapid City which began on July 19, 2011.

The investigation was conducted by the Butte County Sheriff’s Office, the South Dakota Division of Criminal investigation, and the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Connie Larson and Amy Koopmann.
