Box Elder Man Sentenced for Killing a Mountain Lion Near Mt. Rushmore

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Box Elder man charged with Unlawful Taking of Wildlife (Lacey Act) was sentenced on August 5, 2011, by US Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy. Shannon Homan, age 39, was sentenced to a $250 fine and a $25 victim assessment.

Homan was charged by an Information on June 14, 2010. In January 2010, Homan and another man shot and killed a mountain lion within Mount Rushmore National Memorial. He pled guilty on July 29, 2011.

This case was investigated by the National Forest Service. Assistant US Attorney Sarah B. Collins prosecuted the case.
