United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Porcupine man charged with Arson was sentenced on August 12, 2011, by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken. Milton Mesteth, age 28, was sentenced to 60 months of imprisonment, five years of supervised release, restitution, and a $100 victim assessment.

Mesteth was indicted by a federal grand jury on December 21, 2010. In September 2010, near Pine Ridge, Mesteth, along with others, willfully set fire to another person's residence, burning it down. He pled guilty on May 23, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, and the Oglala Sioux Tribe-Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Mandel prosecuted the case.

Mesteth was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
