Man Indicted for Illegal Reentry after Deportation

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly being an alien found in the United States after having been previously deported in 2009 at Hidalgo, Texas.

Jaime Munoz-Jurado, age 40, was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 7, 2011, for illegal reentry after deportation. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Veronica L. Duffy on September 19, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is two years imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation, and Munoz-Jurado is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Munoz-Jurado was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
