Louisiana Man Pleads Guilty to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Jody Dutton, age 55, of Louisiana, appeared before U.S. District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken on November 10, 2011, and pleaded guilty to an indictment that charged him with Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment and/or a $250,000 fine.
Between March 2010 and January 2011, Dutton, who is required to register as a sex offender, failed to update his registration. The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Kelderman.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for February 10, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending sentencing.
