United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that three people have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly knowingly selling counterfeit clothing and other merchandise at several Keystone, Hill City, Deadwood, Sturgis, and Rapid City locations.
Nir Giist (53, of Florida), Ravaye Meltzer (33, of Rapid City), and Bar Braver (28, of Rapid City), were indicted by a federal grand jury on December 20, 2011, for Trafficking in Counterfeit Goods or Services. They appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on December 21, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment and/or a $2,000,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation, and Giist, Meltzer and Braver are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Sarah B. Collins is prosecuting the case. Giist, Meltzer and Braver were released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
