
Waubay Man Charged with Theft of Government Property

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Waubay man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for theft of government property. Thomas E. Iyarpeya, age 20, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 8, 2011, for Theft of Government Property. He appeared before US Magistrate Judge William D. Gerdes on February 28, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both. The charge is merely an accusation, and Iyarpeya is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by the FBI. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright is prosecuting the case. Iyarpeya was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set. |
