
Iowa Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Cherokee, Iowa, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on April 11, 2011, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Donald F. Hand, III, age 31, was sentenced to five years of probation, a special assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $29,381.03. Hand was indicted for failing to pay over $25,000 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on September 8, 2010. At the time of indictment, Donald F. Hand, III, had made payments in June, July, and August of 2010. Prior to those payments, he had not made a child support payment since December 2008, and the total arrearage amount was $25,543.78. He pled guilty to the charge on January 13, 2011. This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case. |
