
Texas Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a San Antonio, Texas, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on May 20, 2011, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Leonard G. Gardner, age 41, was sentenced to five years of probation, a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $42,413.25. Gardner was indicted for failing to pay over $38,000 by a federal grand jury on May 3, 2010. He was ordered by the Superior Court of Arizona, County of Pima, to pay $254 per month for his minor children. Said support was modified to $671 per month commencing October 1, 1999. At the time of indictment, he had not made a child support payment since April 2002, and the total arrearage amount was $38,080. He pled guilty to the charge on March 7, 2011. This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case. |
