Georgia Man Sentenced for Failure to Pay Legal Child Support

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Loganville, Georgia, man charged with Failure to Pay Legal Child Support was sentenced on September 26, 2011, by Chief US District Judge Karen E. Schreier. Robert V. Rivera aka Roberto Villalobos, age 30, was sentenced to five years of probation, a special assessment of $100 to the Victim Assistance Fund, and child support restitution in the amount of $29,809.40.

Rivera was indicted for failing to pay over $27,436.00 in past due child support by a federal grand jury on September 8, 2010. He was ordered by the Second Judicial Circuit Court, Minnehaha County, South Dakota, to pay $189 per month for his minor child, commencing November 1, 1999. At the time of indictment, he had never made a child support payment, and the total arrearage amount was $27,463.40. Rivera pled guilty to the charge on June 27, 2011.

This case was investigated the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright prosecuted the case.
