Marty Woman Charged with Assaulting a Federal Officer

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Marty, South Dakota, woman has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assaulting a federal officer.

Paula Primeaux, age 47, was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 4, 2011, for Assaulting, Resisting or Impeding a Federal Officer. She appeared before US Magistrate Judge John E. Simko on October 11, 2011, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is eight years of imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. The charge is merely an accusation, and Primeaux is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the BIA Law Enforcement - Yankton Agency and the FBI. Assistant US Attorney Thomas J. Wright is prosecuting the case. Primeaux was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
