Mexican Citizen Sentenced on Drug Charge

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mexican citizen charged with Possession With Intent to Distribute Cocaine was sentenced on January 9, 2012, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Luis Carlos Rodriguez-Rodriguez, age 25, was sentenced to 12 months in custody, 1 year of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

Rodriguez-Rodriguez was indicted by a federal grand jury in July 2011. He pled guilty to Count II of the indictment, Possession With Intent to Distribute Cocaine, on November 3, 2011.

Rodriguez-Rodriguez and another individual were in an automobile stopped by the Walworth County Deputy Sheriff. A search of the vehicle turned up a white powdery substance concealed in the vehicle. The defendant acknowledged he was transporting cocaine from Santa Fe, New Mexico, to North Dakota. Cocaine is a Schedule II Controlled substance.

This case was investigated by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force. Assistant United States Attorney Ted L. McBride prosecuted the case.
