Guatemalan Man Sentenced for Possession of Fraudulent Immigration Documents

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Guatemalan man charged with Possession of Fraudulent Immigration Documents was sentenced on January 18, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Nelson Miraldo Lopez Y Lopez, age 27, was sentenced to 122 days in custody.

Lopez was indicted by a federal grand jury on October 4, 2011. The charge arose when Lopez completed motor vehicle registration documents at the Jerauld County Treasurer's Office on November 15, 2010. One of the forms of identification he used was a Permanent Resident Card bearing the name Nelson Lopez. The number on the card was valid, but it was issued in another name. Lopez pled guilty to the indictment on December 12, 2011.

This case was investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.

Lopez was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
