Eagle Butte Man Arraigned on Assault Charge

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Assault With a Dangerous Weapon.
Merle Whitney Marrowbone, Jr., age 27, was indicted by a federal grand jury on February 14, 2012. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on February 27, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 10 years' imprisonment. The charge is merely an accusation, and Marrowbone is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement Services. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Seiler is prosecuting the case. Marrowbone was remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
