U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte
man charged with Third Degree Burglary was sentenced on March 5, 2012, by U.S. District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Clinton S. Buckman, age 31, was sentenced to 8 months’ custody, 2 years’ supervised release, $461 restitution, and a $100 special assessment.
Buckman was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2011. The conviction stems from an incident in June 2011 when Buckman and another individual broke into the Cheyenne River Agency Bureau of Indian Affairs-Cheyenne River Sioux Tribal Government Building and stole two pieces of Native American art and a box of blankets. After leaving the building, the items were sold to unknown individuals. On December 12, 2011, Buckman pled guilty to the charge.
This case was investigated by Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Britt M. Haxton prosecuted the case.
Buckman was immediately turned over to the custody of the U.S. Marshal.
