United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Eagle Butte man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for two counts of Aggravated Sexual Abuse.
Jody Jeremy Dupris, age 31, was indicted by a federal grand jury on April 10, 2012. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 18, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
The charges relate to the alleged sexual abuse by force and threat of two victims in Cherry Creek, South Dakota. The first victim was allegedly assaulted in June 1996 and the second victim was allegedly assaulted in December 1999. The charges are merely accusations, and Dupris is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Dupris was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has not yet been set.
