United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that two Wanblee, South Dakota, men have been indicted by a federal grand jury for Kidnapping; Assault with a Dangerous Weapon; Child Abuse; Discharging, Brandishing, Carrying or Possessing a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence; and Aiding and Abetting.
William Charles Jakeway, age 51, and Jerett Eldon Jakeway, age 26, were indicted by a federal grand jury on April 10, 2012. They appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on April 24, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is life in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
The charges are merely accusations, and William Jakeway and Jerett Jakeway are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The investigation is being conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.
Both men were remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending trial. |
