Waubay Man Charged with Five Counts of Wildlife Charges

U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Waubay man has been charged in a 5-count Information for Unlawful Possession of Migratory Birds, Unlawful Possession of Endangered Species, and Unlawful Taxidermy Services.

Kevin Jorgenson, age 54, appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge William Gerdes on April 26, 2012, and pled not guilty to the Information. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 6 months’ imprisonment on the migratory birds and taxidermy charges, and one year of imprisonment on the endangered species charges. The charges are merely accusations, and Jorgenson is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. Assistant U.S. Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case. Jorgenson was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set.
