United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that Burton Little Dog, age 43, of Little Eagle, South Dakota, appeared before United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann on April 30, 2012, and pled guilty to an indictment that charged him with Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to life in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.
The conviction arose from an incident between December 2004 and April 2006, in Little Eagle, in which Little Dog sexually assaulted a child.
The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Detective Division of the Standing Rock Sioux Agency. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson.
A presentence investigation was ordered, and a sentencing date was set for July 23, 2012. The defendant was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal pending sentencing.
