Minnesota Man Sentenced for Violation of the Lacey Act

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that an Evansville, Minnesota, man charged with violating the Lacey Act and Aiding and Abetting pled guilty to the charge and was sentenced on April 30, 2012, by United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno. Brad Byron McAlister, age 62, was sentenced to 1 year of probation, $500 in restitution, and a $25 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund. He must also forfeit two deer mounts.

The conviction arose from a November 2008 incident when McAlister illegally shot and killed a whitetail buck and transported it from South Dakota to Minnesota.

The investigation was conducted by United States Fish and Wildlife Services and South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers.
