United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a McLaughlin man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Aggravated Sexual Abuse of a Child.

Bradley Speker, age 53, was indicted by a federal grand jury on May 8, 2012. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on May 18, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is a mandatory minimum of 30 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both.

The charge relates to allegations that the defendant sexually abused a child victim from January to November of 2007 in Dupree, South Dakota. The charge is merely an accusation, and Speker is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

The investigation is being conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Mikal Hanson is prosecuting the case. Speker was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal. A trial date has been set for July 17, 2012.
