Mexican Citizen Sentenced for Illegal Reentry

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mexican citizen charged with Illegal Reentry after Deportation was sentenced on July 9, 2012, by United States District Judge Charles B. Kornmann. Gustavo Diego-Gonzalez, a/k/a Gustavo Gonzalez, a/k/a Victor Sanchez-Ochoa, age 49, was sentenced to 41 months in custody and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

On January 19, 2012, a person using the name Gustavo Gonzalez was arrested by law enforcement officials in Walworth County for Possession of a Forged Instrument. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) interviewed the man, who stated his name was Gustavo Diego-Gonzalez and that he was a citizen of Mexico. A scan of the man’s fingerprints revealed that Gustavo-Gonzalez had previously been arrested and ordered removed from the United States – using various aliases – in November 2002, July 2003, July 2005 and July 2011.

This case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller prosecuted the case.

Diego-Gonzales was immediately turned over to the custody of the United States Marshal to begin serving his sentence.
