Rosebud Man Sentenced for Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Unregistered Firearm

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Rosebud, South Dakota, man charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession of Unregistered Firearm was sentenced on August 15, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange.  Zane M. Swimmer, age 53, was sentenced to 84 months in custody, 3 years of supervised release, and a $200 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

The conviction stems from an incident that took place on April 5, 2012, when Swimmer, having been convicted of a prior felony, was found to be in possession of a pistol.  On the same day, law enforcement searched Swimmer's home and found several more firearms, one of which was a short-barreled shotgun not properly registered with the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.  

The investigation was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.  The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tim Maher.

Swimmer was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal.
