Crow Creek Man Indicted for Conspiracy & Distribution of a Controlled Substance

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Crow Creek, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for Conspiracy and Distribution of a Controlled Substance.

Royce Kirkie, age 35, was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 18, 2012. He appeared before United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on August 23, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is up to 20 years’ in custody, a $1,000,000 fine, or both.

The charges are merely accusations, and Kirkie is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. 
The investigation is being conducted by the Northern Plains Safe Trails Drug Enforcement Task Force, and Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller is prosecuting the case.   

Kirkie was detained pending trial. A trial date has not been set.
