
Kimball Man Charged with Assaulting Federal Officers

US Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Kimball, South Dakota, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury for assaulting federal officers. James R. Steckley, age 43, was indicted by a federal grand jury on September 19, 2012, for assaulting federal officers. He appeared before US Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno on October 25, 2012, and pled not guilty to the indictment. The maximum penalty upon conviction is 20 years in custody, a $250,000 fine, or both. The charges are merely accusations, and Steckley is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. The investigation is being conducted by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Services and South Dakota Game Fish & Parks. Assistant US Attorney Meghan N. Dilges is prosecuting the case. Steckley was released on bond pending trial. A trial date has not yet been set. |
