Mission Man Sentenced for Assault

United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mission, South Dakota, man charged with Assault by Striking, Beating and Wounding and Simple Assault has pled guilty to the charges and was sentenced on November 15, 2012, by United States Magistrate Judge Mark A. Moreno. William Garneaux, age 21, was sentenced on each count to 6 months in custody and a $20 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

The conviction stems from an incident that took place on April 15, 2012, when Garneaux assaulted the victim by bruising her hand and cutting one of her fingers with a knife. The cut on the victims finger required seven stitches.

The investigation was conducted by Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Marie H. Ruettgers.

Garneaux was remanded to the custody of the United States Marshal.
