United States Attorney Brendan V. Johnson announced that a Mission, South Dakota, man charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm was sentenced on November 20, 2012, by United States District Judge Roberto A. Lange. Lucas Swalley, age 24, was sentenced to 16 months in custody, 2 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Victim Assistance Fund.

The conviction arose from a May 2011 incident in which Rosebud Law Enforcement recovered a stolen Remington .22-caliber rifle from the trunk of a vehicle in which Swalley had been a passenger.

Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services conducted the investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jay Miller.
